teaching with purpose
Written by Macey Conlan
Since beginning my teaching career years ago it became apparent quickly how hard it is for educators to have a healthy work life balance. I have seen and heard countless teachers share about their burnout and I have worked hard to not become one of them. Leaving soon after our school day ended, or not grading student work on the weekend, seemed to fill me with guilt each and every day. When I had my daughter in July, I promised myself I would do the best I could to be a teacher when I got to school, but put my “mom and wife hat” back on as soon as our last bell rang.
personal connection
I pride myself on the personal connections I make each year with students. Of course, as an educator, the academics are important to me. But working to shape our youth to be kind, empathetic, and confident young people, is my “why” behind becoming a teacher.
simplify teaching & promote success
When Jenelle asked me to be apart of SymplifyEd, it was a no brainer for me. I knew this would be my answer for the goal I set as this school year started and allow me to create even stronger connections with my students. This system simplifies the way we teach as a grade level team, cultivates communication between us as educators, and promotes confidence and success among our students. It allows me to maximize my time with my students in the classroom, and feel good knowing we made connections and fostered learning during our school day together.
confidence building
Students know what to expect during their school day, are confident in completing tasks independently, and feel comfortable asking for help when they struggle. SymplifyEd has changed the way I teach, focusing more on mastering essential standards and less on fitting in an impossible amount of tasks into our short school days. We are able to foster meaningful and lasting relationships with our students as individuals, and celebrate each and every success we have throughout our time together.
